About Trek along the Ancient Stone Village of Baoshan

A truly off-the-beaten 2-day trekking trip, we will trek for between 2 to 5 hours each day, along cliff faces and ancient trade paths, taking in unspoiled mountain villages, the Yangtze River canyon, farmlands and spectacular panoramas. The highlights of this trip include the trek through a hand-dug tunnel from 100 years ago and the unique Baoshan Stone Village which seems trapped in time.

Itinerary

day 1

Morning

Wumu village

We will start at 8:00am, and drive for around 3 hours to reach the beautiful Naxi village of Wumu, located alongside the Yangtze River.

Morning

Jade Dragon Snow Mountain

On the way, you will enjoy the rural landscape and sightings of the peaks of Jade Dragon Snow Mountain.

Afternoon

Tiger Leaping Gorge

After lunch at Wumu, we will drive for about 30mins to Ankua village which is a remote Naxi village in the Jinsha River (Upper reach of Yangtze river) canyon. We will explore this small village and visit a local Naxi family before hiking for about 1.5 - 2 hours to reach our main highlight,

Afternoon

Baoshan Stone City

Baoshan Stone village is a 100 household village built on a large rock. We will approach Baoshan on foot, walking along ancient trader paths that hug the cliffs, enjoying some nice panoramas of the Jinsha river canyon, farmlands and villages. We will stay the night in a friendly local family-run inn in Baoshan and savour this unique ancient village slowly.

day 2

All Day

Tiger Leaping Gorge

On the second day, it is a 5-hours' trek to reach Liuqing Village. The first part to Anshualuo village is not steep, but thereafter we will have a harder ascent from 1788m to 2499m (Taiziquan Pass), before descending from the top of the pass to the beautiful Crown Gorge. We will also experience hiking through some ancient tunnels dug by hand some 100 years ago. Your eyes will need to get used to the light after you emerge from the darkness of the tunnels. We will then pass through a tranquil forest and after about another 1.5 hours of hiking, we will reach Liuqing village where our driver will pick us up and drive us back to Lijiang, taking about 3.5 hours or so.
