'educatedman' may be 'educated', but still falling short of being a 'man'. 'they didn't make my bed mommy! AND they didn't smile at me!' grow up! LG currently has the nicest staff in Kunming that I've experienced. If they're not 'smiling', perhaps they're a little tired from working. I bet you can't even smile when on vacation let alone working 8-10 hours/day, 6 days a week like the staff there. Or perhaps you always get bad service because YOU'RE not 'smiling'. :) 'educatedman', you need to get a little education about 'putting yourself in the position of others' before ripping into a business and the people that work there. btw, no one cares how 'educated' you are if you're a self-centered A$$...what an egotistical person you are for even choosing 'educatedman' for your screen name! laughable!

I absolutely love the food at Lost Garden, it is one of the few Western places I bother to go to in Kunming. Their pizza is great and their brunch menu is fantastic. Very nice atmosphere too! I've stayed in the dorms before and found them very clean, nothing too fancy of course but what do you expect when you pay 30kuai a night... Also, to reply to educatedman's review, I do not think you should expect your room to be cleaned everyday in a hostel/guesthouse, and you also have to bear in mind that not all staff members here speak perfect English, which might explain confusion and a lot of "I don't know"s which actually just mean "I don't understand".

Giving 5 stars to offset the ludicrous review below mine. I don't think lost garden is a five star place but it certainly isn't 0. Its a nice little guesthouse, that serves some of the better food in town, and my experience of the service was quite good. I will be back and recommend this place others. Think wily53's review makes good points and I agree fully.

Went for Pizza special tonight. Had the Barbeque chicken and it was very good. Also enjoyed an exceptionally large order of French Fries. Everything was good tonight and owners where not there.

Now wonder the Lost Garden won the 2012 GoKunming prize for Best Guesthouse...it is simply the best place to stay in the city when you are on a budget. Forget other places, this is were its at. The restaurant attached to the guesthouse is amazing as well. The pizzas are some of the best out there and the (almost) all day breakfasts are great as well. Nothing really compares to the Lost Garden, an all around great place to eat and stay while in Kunming.
