About Fuguo temple

Fuguo Temple is one of the 5 important Tibetan Buddhist Lamaseries in Lijiang, and was once Lijiang's biggest monastery. Started from the year of 1601, it was completely destroyed over the centuries and subsequently rebuilt to its present glory. It sits on a hill high above the plains of Lijiang basin, and is now home and school to some 30 Tibetan orphans from Tibetan Sichuan. There is a small collection of 15th and 16th century religious frescoes inside Hufa Hall, similar to Tibetan Thangka art, but reflect the particular cosmopolitan cultural mix of the golden age of Naxi Baisha.
